L'Habit Fait Le Moine, or Clothes Make The Monk, is a collection of images born out of a role Charles did not wish to play. Feeling uneasy photographing the faces of the guests whilst working as a photographer for the private parties of the Beijing elite, Charles felt drawn to the surroundings, the clothes, activities taking place in other rooms or corners, and photographed them, finding them more alive than the people present at the soirée.
